International Travel

For more information, see the UMBC Policy on International Travel and CGE Resources.

International travel to destinations that actively involve conditions of High (Level 4), and Extreme (Level 5) risks as determined by Riskline must be approved by the Center for Global Engagement (CGE), and a Risk Reviewer will be included if the current conditions in the country meet or exceed this threshold. International Travel must enroll in UMBC’s International Travel Registry and enroll in UMBC’s International Travel Insurance Policy.

International Travel Insurance

  • International travelers must self-enroll in UMBC’s international travel insurance, which covers accidents,
illness, medical and security evacuation, repatriation, and 24/7 emergency assistance.
  • Employees traveling abroad on UMBC business must self-enroll in UMBC’s international travel
insurance policy. To enroll, register travel through the travel registry.

Students participating in UMBC study abroad programs through the Office of International Education Services will be automatically enrolled. All other students traveling abroad on university business must self-enroll. They should be prepared to pay by credit card; the transaction receipt should be submitted
later for reimbursement. To enroll, register travel through the travel registry.
