Policy:Travel for business must be conducted at the lowest reasonable cost necessary to achieve the University’s mission.
Procedures:
Cost Stewardship
Travel should be conducted at the lowest reasonable cost while adequately supporting the official university business purpose of the trip. Travelers are expected to exercise prudent judgment and utilize the most economical and practical travel options reasonably available while considering factors such as business needs, scheduling requirements, accessibility accommodations, safety, operational efficiency, and overall cost effectiveness.
Travelers are expected to utilize the most logical least-cost travel option reasonably available. The “most logical least-cost” option is the travel arrangement that appropriately balances cost, business purpose, scheduling needs, routing, safety, accessibility accommodations, operational efficiency, and overall reasonableness.
Departments, approvers, arrangers, and travelers share responsibility for the responsible stewardship of university funds and ensuring travel expenses are reasonable, necessary, and appropriately support official university business.
